First of all in starting a collection, you need to think about what kinds of things will you collect. if you want to be unique, try collecting "UNUSUAL" products, and when i say unusual, I'm not telling you to collect aliens and U.F.O.'s or your sister's old tweezers or your father's shaving cream bottles, for me to collect something unusual is to gather things a bit unsuited for you, your age, your gender. well, that's IF you just want to be unique and original.(*see some outrageous collection of the most bizarre people on earth later, keep reading first!) But if you just want to have fun collecting goodies and don't care about what other people will say about them, i strongly suggest to collect the things YOU LOVE, do you like some particular magazines? then, subscribe to that certain title, do you like a particular line of Revlon cosmetics? then get all the color available!. It will be a lot more easier if you love what you are doing and you KNOW that after shelling out your savings, (*and your winter food budget.....just kidding) you will like them, love them and most importantly, CARE for them. Setting up a collection of something is like raising a pet. (*this time I'm not kidding =D )
SECOND, if you are thinking about setting up your own collection, you MUST do it because you LIKE, LOVE, CARE for the things you will collect, not just because....
*you and your ex's girlfriend are having a bet on who has the most coolest collection in town to win the boy back.
*you envy those girls in school who has something to talk about everyday about their collections and stuff.
*you want to IMPRESS someone or somebody you like or just to show off.
*you feel like doing it after your super scary adrenaline rush.
I'm telling you, if you are doing this because of those things I have listed above then STOP!! you must know that setting up a collection is NOT AS EASY as you think. those things you will buy will be your babies for life! (*not literally) you will have to wash them up (*if they are solid figurines or clothes but if they are made of paper, don't let water have contact with them, the results may be FATAL to your books! ) scrub those dirt and polish them everyday or at least twice a month.
Well i think you have a fair share of knowledge now so i think i won't hurt to begin?
1.) have a closer look to your budget, if you want to have a collection of Chanel shoes, then you must have lots and lots and lots of "MOOLAH" (*money). You won't be able to get them by pleading the sales lady right? you will have to give them REAL CASH. so if you want to have a big collection. choose things that are cheap but good in quality and good for your budget.
2.) Think about what you will collect.
3.) Find some local supplier of your chosen collection, if possible, befriend him or her so the price may be reduced!! hehe i tried this once and it's very effective!. If you are not able to find someone then you must rely on the ONLINE SHOPPING, it may sound great because you will just get your laptop and those goodies will be delivered the next week. BUT it's actually not. online shopping is equals to SHIPPING FEES! you think you saved money by not commuting to the mall where you can get them? well think again. shipping fees include payments to these people:
*the person who owns the website or company where you get your orders.
*the person who will process your request
*the person who will wrap your package.
*the person who will deliver your package.
so it will TAKE A LOT.
3.) after choosing the right things, ordering them through the internet or getting them by yourself, next thing is STORAGE OR DISPLAY. You will have to have some place to store them well, this is not that tricky because you just have to find a place where dust is not a problem and space is well managed. for that i recommend these glass cabinets:
4.) PROTECTION, having a collection means having something to clean once in a while, you would not want to have a DIRTY collection right? so it's time to be responsible for your own things, your mom and maid has enough problems and things to focus, don't expect them to clean your things.
I guess i have given you the basics now? ~finally~ :)
REMEMBER: starting up a collection is never an easy job, you have to care for those things you love and collect because they are valuable to you. Now after getting all those in your head i suppose i can give you some ideas of things you might want to collect?
For the girly girls i suggest these:
FOR the fearless boys well check these out (*sorry if these don't really interest you cuz' Im a girl looking to a boy's perspective so please don't laugh?)
If i haven't cleared up everything yet, don't be shy to e-mail me your questions! i'd be thrilled to write back, i know i do have some things that are not-so-clear here in my FIRST blog entry so I'm expecting a few questions. Also, I'm always open for suggestions just email me and i'll see if i can do something about your chosen topic!
